Bali is home to countless waterfalls with beautiful scenery and a calming atmosphere. One of the island’s most beautiful, yet relatively unexplored, waterfalls is Tegenungan waterfall in Banjar Tegenunan in Kemenuh village, Sukawati, some 18 kilometers northeast of Denpasar.
The 50-meter high waterfall originates from the Petanyu River. The few who do visit, both locals and foreigners, usually visit the waterfall at weekends and holidays.
Nearby, local residents take water from several natural springs for daily consumption and for bathing.
Surrounded by rows of coconut trees, with the sound of birds and bees and the flow of the Petanu River, Tegenungan waterfall is a perfect place to escape from a busy city life.
Reaching Tegenungan waterfall is quite challenging. After you park your vehicle, you have to traverse hundreds of natural cobbled stone stairs.
But your effort will be worthwhile. Bathing and swimming under the waterfall gives you an extraordinary sensation you cannot get from swimming pools, however beautiful they may be. If you feel thirsty and hungry after swimming, you can support the local economy buying food at the nearby food stalls.
Adult visitors are required to pay IDR 20.000/person for entrance while children are charged IDR 10.000.
