In one of the most celebrated moments of long philosophical exposition on hesitation, action, passivity, and the worship of God, Khrisna tells Arjuna what God expects and requires of an offering. “Whoever offers to me with devotion a leaf, a flower, a fruit, or water, that offering of love, of the pure heart I accept”. That passage lies at the heart of the tradition of preparing offerings in Bali. And Although they range from modest to extravagant, most offerings contain just what Khrisna specified – leaves, flowers, fruits, and holy water – and all are prested with devotion.
